Why do you go the gym? Is it to improve your quality of life?
If it is, how is it going for you?
If you were a person who always felt weak, needed help doing daily chores or maybe you struggled with walking to and from the shops, can the gym help?
Most definitely!
Do you do exercises that help improve these weak points?
Or, do you just do what you feel comfortable with?
If you stick to your “strong points” in the gym you will not necessarily improve the areas you had set out to in the beginning.
If you have trouble with walking but all you do in the gym is seated resistances machines that target the upper body, that is not going to be of benefit to you compared to a more dynamic lower body exercise routine.
If grip strength and upper body strength were an issue before the gym and now you walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes 3 times a week, will this help? You will get the benefit of the activity that you are doing but you will not improve what you set out to do.
You need to have a purpose in what you do. The gym is a great tool to help your everyday life, don’t just see it as something you have to do. Once you begin to notice the benefits it will become easier to motivate yourself to go.
There is no point in going and wasting your time doing something you are not benefitting from or enjoying.
What you need is a plan of attack!
At AdePT we not only coach in-house clients but we also write programmes for people who prefer to train in their own gym.
If you are sick of wasting time in the gym getting nowhere, book in for a consultation with us and we can get set you on the right path.
