What do I mean when I say there’s no such thing as “healthy food”?
There is no single food that you can put into your body which will automatically make you healthier!
If you remove “bad” food from your diet and you add “good” food, this will make you “healthier”.
If you are trying to balance out your chipper or Chinese every evening by having a kale smoothie for your lunch and an algae salad, you’re not going to be getting any healthier are you?
Could you lose weight? Yes, if you keep your calories low enough. Will your body function properly? Probably not!
Marketing companies do a great job these days with branding, labelling and advertising. They latch onto buzz words like “superfood” or they will label the product high in protein or low fat. Whatever the current trend is they hop straight on it.
As going to the gym and lifting is fashionable in today’s society, every food product that contains a certain level of protein will be labelled as high in protein. It probably has huge quantities of carbohydrates and fats too but mentioning the high protein content on the front will make you think it is good for you, because….you know…. protein is the “in” thing.
You may have heard about “superfoods”, a magical group of foods that will transform you from couch potato to a ripped health freak in no time. All you have to do is have some almonds in your porridge or have asparagus with your dinner etc…
The truth is no food is “super” in this way!
Regardless of the nutritional profile, food will not burn away your love handles or define your abs.
The same goes for super shakes or most things labelled “super”; these foods will not make you look like a cover model. (Time to throw out those detox juices and meal replacement shakes)
Superfoods are great additions to a balanced diet; they will add extra micronutrients to your diet and often contain few calories.
These companies even use things like “Gluten Free” or “Dairy Free” to make you think that their products are ok to eat.
Don’t be fooled by how a food is marketed. Nothing will replace hard work and discipline when it comes to transforming your physique. No food, no shake, no supplement and no juice.
When it comes to being healthy all you need to remember is: eat good quality food, train hard and keep hydrated!
Keep it simple!!
